Description
Possessing some of the most powerful long range weapons in the world, Shattered Horizon is able to eliminate kaiju just before or shortly after making landfall. It is also one of the few jaegers designed to fight exclusively at long range. The largest downfall to this design is that its heavy armor and bulky weapon systems make the Shattered Horizon ponderously slow. In addition, the lack of effective short range weapons and absolutely no melee combat capability is a huge detriment should a kaiju succeed in getting close enough to render Shattered Horizon’s long range weapons useless. To maximize its strengths and limit the impact of its weaknesses, Shattered Horizon works best while supporting other jaegers or mundane anti-kaiju forces.

Weapon System Notes
:bulletblue: The hyperion shell cannons are Shattered Horizon’s primary weapon systems, sending overcharged miniature N2 bombs over 32,000 meters (about 20 miles). These specialized shells are designed to detonate on or just before impact, utilizing both the massive shockwave and heat to inflict most of the damage to invading kaiju. Due to the nature of these bombs and as a safety feature, they require a significant amount of energy as a primer. If not fully charged, the hyperion shells are about as effective as WWII battleship cannons. While size of these shells limits each cannon to three shots, very few kaiju are able to survive a direct hit from a full salvo and those that do can easily be finished off by Shattered Horizon’s other weapon systems.

:bulletblue: Built into the torso near the shoulders are a pair of AKM pods. These missiles are no different than other medium or long-range missiles used by other Jaegers, however the payload is significantly greater with thirty missiles per missile pod

:bulletblue: In the central torso, Shattered Horizon is equipped with two 100mm Vulcan cannons and a standard plasmacaster. This gun-cluster is designed to act as a fallback weapon system and finish off wounded kaiju. The Vulcan cannons are usually loaded high-explosive armor-piercing shells designed to rend kaiju armor and provide a weak spot for plasmacaster.

I’ve been seeing a couple of fan-jaegers running around online and because I am trying to do more of that fanart thing, play around more with different aspects of SAI and because Pacific Rim is a complete and total AF40K-gasim from beginning to end (and applies to most of my sensibilities), I figured I would throw this out there.

I made this mech noticeably shorter to play on the idea that it is a bit of a glass-cannon. Yes, it has heavy armor and is fairly durable, but its durability comes from its (more or less) compact size. This means that it is far tougher than many other jaegers of its class, but it is also a lot slower than any jaeger in its class as well. Fortunately, the complement of BFGs means that it will pulverize any kaiju as it advances, so a lot of movement isn’t necessary.

Because of how I regard fanon and whatnot, I figure that Shattered Horizon was brought down before the events of Pacific Rim took place; either it was retired or was destroyed. If retired, later kaiju would have more durable armor that made maintaining the hyperion shell cannons unsustainable. If destroyed, Shattered Horizon was the first responder to an attack and because it lacked support, the attacking kaiju was able to use Shattered Horizon’s design flaws to its advantage.

For those that care about the technical bits, this started off as a *very* rough sketch that I used as a base. Outside of that, this was all done in Paint Tool SAI using mostly the watercolor brush as well as some custom brushes I found.

As a rough sketch it's fine, but I think you could use more motion on the water. It seems a tad too blocky and stiff to really come off as a wave hitting the Jeager. My suggestions would be to bring the waves a more around the Jeage instead of just being in front of it.

I also think that you could use more color in the water, as there appears to be no reflection off the water for the gun blast, or the colors of the Jeager for that matter. With the piece being at night it looks like you could also opt for using cooler colors to help add to the overall ambiance.
